I don't think the MacPac has much to worry about with NJS stealing the record. Our club mascot is the 3-toed sloth, for a reason. When I was new at this club business, used to envy those long lines of Harley riders, thundering along in two perfect columns, expressing their soidarity inprecision formation. And I don't give a shit how much loud pipes actually aggravate me, there is nothing as awe-inspiring than the rolling thunder that accompanies Harley riding clubs.

Two years ago, about 30 Mac Pac riders did a fast run down to Gettysburg (about 90 miles one way), and I got a chance to experience the group thing. What a pain in the ass that was! The only view I had for about 90 minutes was the ass end of the bike in front of me, and my wrist ached fro maintaining my exact position for tha same period of time.

We were 20 miles away from the place when I looked over at Bregstein, and gave Dick the nod. We gave our bikes the gas and became a rogue group of two. That was a lot more fun.

These guys who turned out to break the record stayed together long enough for the distance/count, thaem went to their own ride. Always the preferred course of action.

While our numbers were predictable, it still felt great to be part of this group.

Fondest regards,
Jack • reep • ToadJack Riepehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07531160098262862027noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6428154721977251894.post-58676765914421438812010-05-09T14:54:38.515-04:002010-05-09T14:54:38.515-04:00Dear Classic Velocity Blog:

The ride through the countryside that Todd Trumbore planned was well done even though we must have had at least 150 bikes stretched out for miles moving at a healthy clip. That really pissed off people who wanted to get out their driveways. BMW riders don't seem to understand slowing down. I have it on good authority that some even refuse to slow or stop for boulders, road barriers, left-turning vehicles, and four-legged, cloven hoofed mammals.
Can't wait for next-years ride.BMW-Dickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17923099195434220681noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6428154721977251894.post-24605340100831021732010-05-09T12:47:11.346-04:002010-05-09T12:47:11.346-04:00Dear Jack,

If not, we should attempt to break it ourselves next year. There was a record involved, but we also contributed to a good cause, and strengthened ties to a local business and a budding cookie business! If others do the same, worthy causes will benefit, and a giant economic engine will be started. Insightful to speed the flow!

Did someone from Cape Girardeau really send a nasty-gram? Seems immaturish. Tell them to make it a friendly competition, not take it personally. During the entire write-up I kept in the back of my head that this was also a fund-raiser!! Did they not understand that? Was their attempt also co-mingled with a fund-raiser or merely to set a record? And it should be pointedly obvious now that BMW's aren't covering all the roads in PA if it was still down to the wire to beat their count by 5. PA had to work hard at this as did they on theirs.
