The Hurricane Got Nasty...

Dear Twisted Roads Readers:

The storm activity became noticeable around 2am today, as the wind started moan. Everything grew silent at 5am, as the wind and the rain stopped... And then it started with a vengeance. I am 15 miles from the ocean, but a scant 20 or 30 miles from where the hurricane is expected to make landfall. Wind gusts are expected to top 90 mph, but I am beyond the storm surge, I think.

The wind is a constant 50 to 65mph now and the rain is bullet-like. It sounds like a jet engine screaming over the roof.  The house is sound and tight. The utilities are taking a pounding, however, and the lights are flickering. Power is out all around me. The electricity is expected to go down by 7pm and may not be up for a while. Meaning days. Some utilities are claiming a week.

If I do not answer my email, it means I have no access to it. It means that charge is gone in my phone. I have food, water, gas to cook on, and the neighbor's lawn on which to take a dump. I have cigars and rum. I plan to mail another batch of books on Wednesday. Nothing is going to move tomorrow.

I'll post a update to this at 7pm tonight.

Jack - Watching from afar it sure seems nasty. Hope you survive the 100 mph winds and your cigars don't get water damaged. As for the neighbour's lawn for a dump, I've read somewhere that filling a bathtub with water is a good option - and you don't have to go outdoors and risk being blown over into a pile of .... well you get the drift.
Take care.

Thanks for the update Jack. I think you will suvive the storm. At least you don,t have to worry about falling of your bike. Up here in northern Alberta all we have to worry about is snow and freezing rain.

Supporters of the Candidate Who Believes In Magic Underwear say these things are Gods way of cleaning the Augean stables of idolaters and sex mad motorcyclists and poofs who want to get married. I'm not sure which group you ascribe to, possible even the Morons themselves when faced with death by hurricane, but in any event rest assured your travails will come after the storm is forgotten and you have to clean up. Which usually involves a lot of bending over I'm sorry to say.
Enjoy the rum and chocolates and I'll send a live iguana for iron rations when the posts are running again.
Thanks for not answering the phone. Your automated secretary sounds a lot sexier than you do and we get along quite well now that she has got to know me.

1:30 p.m. on Tuesday the 30th, and still no update by you, Jack. Wonderful! My copy of "Conversations with a Motorcycle", safely stored in the USPS system, must have doubled in value by now.
Regardless of these monetary considerations, I hope all is well and that the flow of rum will soon be augmented by the flow of electrons in you hydro line. Where I live, up north-west from you, Sandy had blown away all the predicted rain and we are enjoying another spring-like day. You get the rum, we get the outdoorsy weather.
My heart goes out though to all those who get/were really hit by this storm.
Hope you are not one of them, Jack.
Greetings from BeMoreDoLess

For those worried about the lack of an update from Jack at 7pm last night as promised, I did hear from him today. He let me know the power was out at his place, but he said nothing about whether he had taken a dump on his neighbor’s lawn or not.

Gary:

thanks for your update. I did try to call him yesterday too, but no answer.

If he did take a dump on his neighbour's lawn, and depending upon the storm surge, the backwash would have come back to haunt him anyway . . .

Good to hear you are alive. Had been wondering about you, then sort of freaked when I looked at a map.
It's amazing but Chris Christie looks more in control and even presidential than either of the two bozos running for office this time.
And BTW, it's sunny and 78 degrees here today. Unfortunately I didn't get to ride today, Dammit!

Stay away from Danger you old codger you,

Gary - Thanks for the update.
Jack - Hope your only problem is power and that otherwise you were unscathed.
